Til’ Debt Do Us Part: Financial Cost of Getting Married

FYI. Just sit back, grab a bucket of popcorn and read on.

Money can’t buy you love, but it will buy you the wedding of your dreams. We all have one, whether it be by the beach, saying your vows along with the sunset, a traditional church wedding or skydiving while frantically saying I do.

In today’s time, with rising inflation, these things don’t come cheap. You better be prepared to empty your pockets before you get down on one knee. Let’s make a detailed analysis of what it really cost to have your dream wedding.

VENUE

                                                                  Church

The traditional Filipino wedding often takes place in churches. What better place to have someone open the doors and shout “Itigil ang kasal!” Churches charge a fee ranging from Php 5,000 to Php 30,000. This all depends on their location, reputation and size. You can save up on this if you are good friends with your local church. They might be kind enough to host your wedding for free.

If you’re a romantic and would rather opt for a beach wedding, be prepared to spend more. Private beaches charge from Php 10,000 to a whopping Php 100,000. Prices also increase depending on the number of guests you have, unlike churches that typically charge a fixed fee. On top of that, you’d have to book a hotel room for all your guests. Those beaches.

RECEPTION AND CATERING

reception

Guests’ favorite part. No wedding would be complete without the traditional tossing of the bouquet, cutting of the cake and most importantly…… free food! This part of the wedding is where you will incur most of your expenses.

Wedding venues charge around Php 50,000 to Php 225,000 depending on the type of package you avail. Some of which also include catering services so you can save a lot. If you decide to hire a separate one this could cost you an additional Php 40,000 to Php 180,000. You could tell your guests to bring their own food and declare your wedding a potluck.

ENGAGEMENT RING

If you like her then you should’ve put a ring on it (Wo Oh Oh). There’d be no wedding unless you pop the question, granted she’d say yes. Engagement rings range from Php 5,000 to Php 350,000. Not to mention that you’d have to spend to make the perfect proposal.

There are several ideas you can come up of. A romantic dinner for two would cost you anywhere from Php 1,000 to Php 10,000. A violin playing in the background would be an additional Php 5,000. A hot air-balloon ride costs Php 16,000. Making your own Jollibee commercial would cost your house and lot. A dancing flash mob would cost you a fortune, but you could message every Facebook friend you have to randomly show up and dance.

WEDDING COVERAGE

Wedding Photographer

If you’re fiance is addicted to Instagram then you’d better save up on this one. These services normally come at Php 15,000 to Php 125,000. Some wedding photographers also include a proposal video in their package. Deciding to hire a well known photographer separately also comes at a premium. Thankfully, selfie sticks were invented.

WEDDING PLANNING

Planning a wedding could unleash the bridezillas from within. Everything from the table cloth to the bridesmaid dresses and even the emcee has to be perfect. Some of the things you’d consider are wedding rings, invitations, wedding dress, groom’s tux, bridesmaid dress, groomsmen’s suits, wedding cake, token, guest transportation and much more. All in all these would cost you anywhere from Php 25,000 to Php 300,000. If you go premium, designer wedding dresses alone would cost Php 300,000.

Tipid Solution

All the prices above are for 150 guests and were averaged from various sources online. The great thing is, like Christmas packages and group meals, all these things come in packages. There are several companies that offer you the complete wedding experience for a minimum price. These all in one wedding organizers charge from Php 50,000 to Php 300,000. Engagement ring not included of course.

How much your wedding costs does not determine the strength of your marriage. It still depends on how much you truly love each other and how committed you are to the marriage. #palusotngnagtitipid
